Discovering your inner colour
INTERIOR stylist Sibella Court is firm believer that the answer to finding the right colours for your home are right under your nose.
The Society Inc owner and award-winning author says your personal items can reveal the colours that you tend to gravitate towards.
“What I find is that people are attracted to the same things over and over again and they don’t realise it,” Court says.
People will have the chance to see this method in action when Court hosts the Colour Box Styling Workshop this Saturday at The Big Design Market at the Royal Hall of Industries.
“Each guest is encouraged to bring a shoebox of their favourite things and I will help them come up with a palette that’s their own,” she says.
“It could be an invitation you never threw out, a hand towel, something from your childhood, postcards, a Christmas decoration.”
Court says the box of items can reveal a lot about a person.
“It doesn’t just reveal a paint colour, it reveals a texture or a finish as well,” she says.
“Some people are into shiny things, others will bring in a rusty nail.”
Court says prioritising your personal taste over trends will help you choose the right colours.
“People’s memories of a colour affect how they feel about it,” she says.
“Red might be passion for someone or it could remind you of the red lipstick that your mum always wore when you were a child.”
The Big Design Market will debut in Sydney from November 25 to 27 and will include a mix of local and international designers in fashion, homewares and lifestyle products. Details: sydney.thebig designmarket.com
