Dr Mark Zagorski gets some well deserved recognition for 30 years serving the alpine region.
DR Mark Zagorski, a Mount Beauty resident who has devoted 30 years to improving medical care and first aid in the Alpine region, has been selected to appear on the cover of this year’s Wangaratta White Pages® and Yellow Pages® book.
Since moving to the region in 1981, Dr Zagorski has played a major role in developing state-of-the-art medical facilities at the local hospital and medical centres, ensuring they’re more responsive to typical Alpine injuries while also meeting the needs of locals.
He has also voluntarily trained local ski patrols, teaching them how to best treat common alpine injuries such as fractures, dislocations and serious trauma.
“The medical services available to this region are second-to-none and we are all working hard to ensure they keep improving,” he said.
An avid skier, one of his most innovative medical achievements occurred in 2008 when, concerned by the number of back injuries sustained by ski patrol staff, he developed an electric hoist to move patients from ski patrol sleds to hospital beds with the touch of a button.
The device has proven effective locally and has sparked interest from interstate and international ski resorts.
