Teen dies after fall from roof at resort
A TEENAGE male died on Sunday, June 9, after sustaining fatal injuries in a fall from an apartment block roof at Hotham earlier that day.
The news rocked those staying on mountain for opening weekend.
Sergeant Martin Torpey, based at Hotham police station, said the 19-year-old, from Mangalore near Seymour, was staying in a room at Arlberg accommodation at the resort with up to a dozen mates for the weekend.
Police believe he left the room via a window about 5.30am, slipped on the pitched Colorbond roof adjoining the room and fell 25 metres.
He suffered severe head and internal injuries as a result.
People staying at the apartment block heard a thud outside their room and eventually went to investigate.
Police estimate the man was lying there for about 20 minutes before being discovered.
An ambulance took the man to Mt Hotham Medical Centre, where staff worked on him for a number of hours in an attempt to stabilise his condition.
At 10.30am he was airlifted to the Alfred Hospital, but he passed away at 6.50pm Sunday at the Alfred.
Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
