Grass roots com­pe­ti­tion back

HOTHAM’S Freeride se­ries is back for win­ter, with seven in­di­vid­ual events that skiers and snow­board­ers can com­pete in for the chance to take home the ti­tle of 2015 over­all Freeride se­ries cham­pion.

Held from July to Septem­ber each year, the Hotham Freeride Se­ries aims to de­velop grass roots ski­ing and snow­board­ing abil­i­ties, and has pro­vided a launch pad for young lo­cal tal­ent to show off their stuff.

One such rider is Hotham lo­cal snow­boarder, Carter Mills, 14, who has won back to back cham­pi­onship ti­tles for the last four years in his age cat­e­gory, and hopes to take the ti­tle again in 2015.

Carter’s spe­cialty event is the Snow­board Cross in which he has also won four con­sec­u­tive Na­tional Cham­pi­onship events in the last two years.

Dur­ing the win­ter, Carter trains at Hotham with Hotham Snow­board­ers Inc and spends the Aus­tralian sum­mer in Vail, Co­larado, USA with his fam­ily.
