THE team at Mt Hotham Resort Management Board (MHRMB) welcomed their new chief executive officer earlier this year.

Former Mansfield local, Jonathan Hutchins officially began his new role on January 19, and (MHRMB) chair Deb Spring said he was the clear choice for the role.

“The Board unanimously endorsed Jon’s appointment given his extensive knowledge of the challenges and opportunities for alpine resorts and his passion for focusing on visitor experiences and property development,” she said.

“Jon was appointed from a very strong field of candidates following an extensive local and international search.”

Mr Hutchins has had sub- stantial experience in alpine resorts having previously worked at Mt Hotham as chief financial officer from 2008 – 2012 and Mt Buller.

According to the Board, during his four-year term at Mt Hotham, Mr Hutchins demonstrated his ability to develop and promote new initiatives including the Alpine Easy Access resort entry system and renewed financial and risk management systems for the Board.

Mr Hutchins said improving the resort’s aesthetics and trying to boost yearround visitor numbers are on the list of things to do.

“We want to get the place to the next level for our visitors and focus on making the resort easier for them to utilise,” he said.

“The potential for allseason visitation to grow is huge and we are looking at trying to make coming to Hotham as easy as we can for visitors.

“One of the major hurdles people have to overcome is actually getting here, so when they are here we want them to know the effort they made was worth it because of the experience they have on-mountain.”
