DINNER Plain is the perfect place to introduce your family to the snow in 2015 and, during the official opening weekend of the season, you’ll be able to step back in time.

This year’s opening weekend theme is ‘Back to the Future’ and Dinner Plain coordinator Grant Seamer said there’s plenty to do and see.

“The Back to the Future theme is a free public event and we will be visiting four different eras on Sunday, June 7, to give visitors a bit of an insight into the history of Dinner Plain,” he said.

“There will be interactive activities at each era and the first era is 1851, which is when the gold rush began in the Bright and Omeo area, and there will be gold panning activities and damper cooking.”

The next era will be 1884, when the Alpine Road was put in from Bright to Omeo, and Mr Seamer said people using the road could have in fact helped give Dinner Plain its name.

The 1920s era will see the recreation of a Cattleman’s camp and there will be live brumbies, swags and a cattleman’s stew cooking on the open fire.

In 1986, construction of the Dinner Plain Village commenced and Mr Seamer said this era will be celebrated with a retro disco.

“We want people to grab a glass of regional wine or cider, and sit back and listen to some of the great 80s classics,” Mr Seamer said.

“All of our festivities will be centred around Dinner Plain Hut, and the season will be officially opened at 4pm with speeches, and we will finish off the day with fireworks at 6pm.”

With the addition of snowmaking facilities, ski field lighting and tubing, Dinner Plain is a great spot for families to experience snow for the first time.

The Snow Park is ideal for families looking for a quieter place to get the family started on skis or snowboard, and beginner group lessons and private lessons are available for those needing guidance.

Lift prices have been frozen at 2014 prices and Dinner Plain is offering Australia’s cheapest family lift ticket at just $99 per day, seven days a week.

GREAT FOR KIDS: Families can enjoy the snow in the quieter surrounds of Dinner Plain.
