Let the laugh out loud fun begin
SOME of Australia’s best known comedians will be on-hand at Falls Creek for opening weekend as the Melbourne Comedy Festival Roadshow rolls into town.
Dave Thornton, Bob Franklin, Josh Earl, Penny Greenhalgh and a host of others will be included in the cavalcade of comics who will perform three gala shows over the long weekend, including one for the kids.
Falls Creek’s spokeswoman Jo Prothero said they wanted to make the weekend special.
“It’s a party atmosphere on opening weekend and we know only too well that sometimes Mother Nature is a little fickle with her timing on the snow,” she said.
“We did this a couple of years ago and it was a terrific success.
“But it’s not cheap to get artists of this quality and reputation to Falls Creek so we had a breather last year and have revved the event up for 2016.
“Two years ago we had a show at Cloud 9 and at The Man.
“We just feel The Man is a more intimate venue, better for the comedians and so all three shows will be there at opening weekend.
“We have also added a kids’ show to the line-up and partly as a result of the success of Penny Greenhalgh’s show at this year’s comedy festival – some of the adult only show is not really appropriate.”
Ms Prothero said it was a stellar line-up.
“Bob Franklin is a comedian, actor, director, author,” she said.
“Anything he has turned his hand to he has had success – whether on Jack Irish or Upper Middle Bogan.
“Josh Earl is an award winning comedian, cake enthusiast and host of TV and radio (Spicks and Specks and 3RRRFM’s Breakfasters).
“He has consistently moved through the ranks of the comedy world, sharing stages and screens with the likes of Tim Minchin, Ade Edmondson and Arj Barker
“Penny Greenhalgh is an award winning comedian and regular cast member/ director on ABC’s The Checkout.
“She was listed among the Sydney Morning Herald’s must-see up-and-coming comedians of 2015 and invited by Underbelly to perform at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Tickets are $50 for adults and $20 for children and available online.
