Nordic goes from strength to strength
THE partnership set up last year between the cross country arm of Ski & Snowboard Australia and the YMCA Falls Creek Nordic Centre, will be further strengthened in this coming season.
National team coaches will again join experienced instructors to provide an enhanced range of cross country skiing services for skiers of all abilities.
With a new season focus on healthy lifestyle, family snow-fun and winter fitness, the YMCA Falls Creek Nordic Centre has something for everyone.
Diverse terrain, consistent snow and high quality trail grooming makes Falls Creek a world-class skiing destination for elite and beginners alike.
It has been the official home and National Training Centre for the Australian Cross Country Ski Team since 2004.
”Cross country skiing is a great way to stay healthy and to spend time with friends and family,” said Matthew Charles-Jones, manager of YMCA at Falls Creek.
“The national team coaches will add great depth to our ski school offerings and add a real vibrancy to the cross country trails.”
Coaching services available through the Falls Creek Nordic Centre include advanced private lessons, video analysis, weekly coaching packages and Kangaroo Hoppet training plans. Throughout the winter a series of “Masters” technique clinics will be held with different themes, and coaches will also be sharing their ski waxing knowledge in a number of evening clinics that will double up as national team fundraisers.
“This partnership will enable more coaches to work at Falls Creek all winter, improving support for our national team athletes as well as offering new services to the general public,” cross country skiing high performance manager Finn Marsland said.
Some members of the national team will be based at YMCA Howmans Gap during the ski season, working at the centre and training at Falls Creek. They will be joined by the rest of the team for training camps during the July and September holidays.
Details of the FCNC coaching services are available on the YMCA website www.camps.ymca.org. au/discover/howmans-gap/windycorner-cross-country-ski-centre.html while activities of the national team can be followed via www.ausxc. com and @ausxc on social media.
