LOOKING for four quarters of comedy?
Look no further than the annual Canning Cup on Friday, August 5 that pits a rag tag bunch of Mt Hotham and Dinner Plain towies and mountain staff, aided and abetted by some former, okay ageing, AFL stars, against the hardened boys from Omeo.
David Cloke, Stephen Powell, Matt McGuire, Wayne Walsh, Ted Carroll, Guy Rigoni and Russell Robertson will pull on the red-V and navy blue when they kit up for the Dinner Plain/Mt Hotham Demons in a match designed to raise awareness around motor neurone disease.
MND sufferer and former champion footballer Neale Daniher will be guest speaker at the sold out lunch earlier in the day, while Nationals senator Bridget McKenzie will take to the netball courts at the Omeo Recreation Reserve.
Dinner Plain’s Peter McKenna said the “Big Freeze” had come to the mountains.
“This started eight years ago after one of the legends of Dinner Plain Peter Canning lost his battle with the disease,” he said.
“It is really four quarters of comedy rather than footy but the cause is all that matters.
“It’s fantastic to have Neale Daniher coming – he’s raised more than $8 million in 18 months as part of the Big Freeze and is a true inspiration.”
