$20,000 in 20 months
MT HOTHAM skiing company retail supervisor Mel Yeates (pictured) has added some star power to a quest to raise $20,000 in 20 months.
On Saturday night at The General actor and charity champion Samuel Johnson will be on hand to help with a fundraising auction from 8.30pm.
Yeates, who will also embark on a nationwide trip at the end of September raising money for charities supporting the fight against mental illness and cancer, has already banked $5600 towards the goal.
The 29-year-old said personal experience and friendships were driving her busking road trip across the country and hoped the auction would also help reach the target.
“Samuel’s sister has terminal cancer, and he rode around Australia for a whole year on a unicycle, raising almost $1.5m,” she said.
“He and his sister Connie are the founders of one of the charities, Love Your Sister, which I’m raising money for and we have been emailing back and forth for some time.
“He was only too happy to come up to the mountain – it’s really incredible.”
