The Old Gardens at Clover Arboretum are a popular stop for many visitors to Bogong Village or Falls Creek. In the 1930s a small village known as Clover South was built for housing workers and their families employed on construction of the nearby Clover Dam Power Station. By the early 1940s, all houses in the village were demolished and workers relocated to the new town of Mt Beauty. Nowadays the village with its terraced laneways, interconnecting pathways and stone steps is a beautiful and tranquil garden. Many of the trees and shrubs planted there in the ‘30s including mature pines and oaks still remain. Information boards describe the history and development of the arboretum, with fascinating historical photos highlighting other interesting features of the area.
