Ideal conditions for Harrietville Half Marathon RUNNING
PERFECT running conditions are expected for the third Harrietville Half Marathon on Sunday.
As of Monday, more than half the confirmed race entries were from those doing the 21.1km half marathon.
Organiser Robyn Downey expects the majority of entries for the 10km, 5km and 2km distances to come in over the final days.
“Our entries for the half marathon are already more than we had last year which is great,” she said.
“It’s the shorter distances that people don’t often register for until the last minute.
“The weather is going to be good with no rain predicted and some cloud which should mean it won’t be too hot.”
Downey said 13 runners are set to complete the Alpine Trifecta at Harrietville, having previously finished the 21.1km races at the Bright Fun Run and Mt Beauty Half Marathon.
“We don’t have any locals that are in line to complete the trifecta but some are from Wangaratta,” she said.
“Tracy Carey and Ben Derrick from Bright and Mt Beauty will be here to help present the trophies.
“And once again we will also crown our local champions for the fastest man and woman from the Alpine Valley.”
Race entries can still be completed online as well as on the day.
Start times are 7.30am ( 21.1km), 8am ( 10km), 9.15am (5km) and 9.45am (2km).
A free shuttle service will be available to transport runners from Tavare Park to race start points.
On Saturday night Harrietville’s Avalon House will host a pre-race past party with Bright own former Olympian Bill Scott a guest speaker.
There will also be a postrace lunch at the Snowline Hotel on Sunday.
ON THE RUN: Robyn Downey, Megan Healy and Jo Parker will run in Sunday’s Harrietville Half Marathon before taking on the Melbourne Marathon in a few weeks’ time.
