Donation builds Bright Spring Festival’s fireworks spectacular
THIS year’s Bright Spring Festival ‘Grand Fireworks Spectacular’ is set to be bigger and better thanks to one person’s generosity.
A significant financial contribution from an anonymous donor has allowed organisers to double the budget for the next two festival firework displays.
Festival program coordinator Ros Holland said people could expect the best light and sound show they’ve ever seen as part of the 18-day celebration which opens on October 21.
“The fireworks this year are going to be extraordinary,” she said.
“We’ll be spending twice as much as we usually do to make the display even more incredible.
“We are really grateful and just amazed for someone to come out of the woodwork and say I’m going to give you a huge amount of money and I want the fireworks to be twice as big as usual.
“They approached one of our committee members a couple of months ago and said they will donate the same amount next year, too.”
Marshall Fireworks will again be responsible for the pyrotechnic display which has become the main attraction for families and visitors during the festival.
The ‘Grand Fireworks Spectacular’ takes place at Pioneer Park on November 4 where festival-goers can also enjoy fairground rides, live music and entertainment and plenty of food and drink.
The Spring Festival kicks off with the ‘Make It, Bake It, Grow It’ market while the stunning Open Gardens and the Wandiligong Hall Spring Craft and Produce Market will also be underway.
Three new events this year include a flea market on October 28, the spring ‘Istameet’ – for Instagrammers – on November 4 and the Bright Art Walk which will see businesses displaying the work of local artists and craftspeople throughout the festival.
“Spring is the time of year when the area is at its awakening best, and like autumn it’s just stunningly gorgeous,” Ms Holland said.
“We think we’ve added some great new activities to the program with local photographer Jean Pierre-Ronco, who just joined the committee, responsible for introducing two of the new events.
“It’s great when you have people like that come on-board and bring new fresh ideas.”
