Taberner pens new deal

Peel Thun­der’s run to a se­cond con­sec­u­tive WAFL pre­mier­ship.

Taberner kick­ing eight goals in three fi­nals and to­talled 41 ma­jors in 16 WAFL ap­pear­ances.

Speak­ing on Mon­day, Taberner said he was pleased to be stay­ing with the Dock­ers.

“I’m set­tled in Perth and I’m look­ing for­ward to play­ing for at least a few more years with this play­ing group,” he said.

“I know where I want to play my footy which is at Fre­man­tle and I think this is where I can play my best foot­ball.”

Fre­man­tle’s list man­ager Brad Lloyd said the club was pleased with Taberner’s pro­gres­sion and see plenty of de­vel­op­ment in him still.

“Matt is an im­por­tant player on our list and is a de­vel­op­ing for­ward who con­tin­ues to grow ev­ery year,” he said.

“He had some strong per­for­mances through­out the 2017 sea­son and played some out­stand­ing foot­ball at Peel Thun­der.

“We’re de­lighted that he has ex­tended at the club and we look for­ward to see­ing his con­tin­ued de­vel­op­ment.”

Taberner joined the Dock­ers in the 2012 rookie draft and was pro­moted to the se­nior list for the fol­low­ing sea­son.

He has kicked 52 goals in his 53 AFL matches.
