Help for grand­par­ents rais­ing grand­chil­dren

GRAND­PAR­ENTS who are rais­ing their grand­chil­dren are in­vited to a special in­for­ma­tion ses­sion to be hosted in Wodonga by North East Wa­ter (NEW) on Oc­to­ber 27.

Sev­eral or­gan­i­sa­tions from across the re­gion will be avail­able to as­sist and ad­vise peo­ple about sup­port ser­vices.

NEW man­ager cus­tomer ser­vice, Deb­bie Mackin­lay, said some peo­ple in that po­si­tion may not know about the as­sis­tance that’s on of­fer.

“We have worked with sup­port or­gan­i­sa­tion, Grand­par­ents Rais­ing Grand­chil­dren, to fa­cil­i­tate the event”, Ms Mackin­lay said.

“We recog­nise that there are many, many grand­par­ents across the re­gion who are rais­ing their chil­dren’s kids.

“Our aim is to raise aware­ness, that those in this sit­u­a­tion are not alone, and they have ac­cess to a wide range of sup­port ser­vices.

“Rep­re­sen­ta­tives from Grand­par­ents Rais­ing Grand­chil­dren, Up­per Mur­ray Fam­ily Care, Ma­ter­nal Child Health Out­reach and Gate­way Health will be in at­ten­dance.”

The in­for­ma­tion ses­sion is tak­ing place at NEW’s re­gional head­quar­ters on Thomas Mitchell Drive in Wodonga on Oc­to­ber 27 from 10am to 11.30am.
