Power batsmen fire in grand final rematch to claim win over Hawks MT BEAUTY CRICKET By JUSTIN JENVEY
MT Beauty has eased to victory over Kiewa in Saturday’s grand final rematch.
The Power opened their account for the 2017/18 season with a 43-run win over the Hawks at Kiewa.
After four of Mt Beauty’s top five were out for ducks last week the team’s leading batsmen all fired in round two, helping the visitors to 8/198.
Wicke t keeper Damien Jenvey was the best with 44 while Ross Wilson made 41 and Greg McLennan 37.
Chris Derrick (3/29) and Al Randell (1/15) ripped through the Kiewa top order to reduce the hosts to 4/29 before some resistance from Connor Davis (24) and Ryan Bartel (22).
Aiden Grace (2/17) and Dan Saville (3/22) shared the next four wickets to have Kiewa on the ropes at 8/80.
The final pair of Jesse McInerney (40) and Andrew Clark (17 not out) then halted the Power’s progress adding 60 in the highest partnership of the innings.
Saville took the final wicket to see Kiewa all out for 155.
A century to Mark Betheras helped Mt Beauty’s second grade to a second straight win.
The veteran finished unbeaten on 103 and put on 144 with Chris Hocking (60) for the second wicket in the total of 5/188.
With the ball the Power limited Kiewa to 4/84 from their 40 overs with Ben Slocombe taking 3/14.
Mt Beauty hosts rival Dederang in its first home game of the season this weekend.
The Demons lost to Yackandandah in week two after an opening round victory over Baranduda.
