Buffalo River CFA awards
TWENTY-SEVEN Buffalo River CFA volunteers were recognised for their contributions at an awards ceremony and dinner at the Buffalo Hotel last week.
Among the medals handed out were five 50-year service awards.
About 50 people attended the presentation where chicken parmigianas were on the menu to raise money for drought stricken farmers through the Parma for a Farma initiative.
CFA District 24 operations officer Mark Owens was on hand to present certificates and medals to the loyal Buffalo River brigade members.
Honours for 50 years’ ser- vice went to Ian McGuffie, Graham Mastertin, Colin Mastertin, Roger Johnson and Ken Clemens.
Kevin McLeese received recognition for 40 years and Gordon Smith, Glenda McGuffie, Tony Menze, Maureen McLeese and Christine Mastertin 35 years.
Medals for 30 years were received by Peter Traini, John Hansen and Brad Smith while Ron Janas and Joe Cannata have contributed 25 years.
Others being awarded service medals were Noelene Menze, Trevor McKibbin, Kerry Hansen (20 years), Jackie Mastertin, Jamie Butterfield (15 years), and Bruce McCallum, Andrea Butterfield and Shawn Barton (10 years).
Five year certificates were given to Hayden Smith, Geoff Neck and Kelly Barton.
Brigade captain Trevor McKibbin said it was great to recognise the efforts of many members over a long period of time.
The Buffalo River CFA will hold a community day and barbecue at their station next Sunday to discuss fire plans ahead of the upcoming fire season.
Mr McKibbin said the main idea behind day would be to “get people talking and thinking” about the fire season that could come early due to the dry winter.
A silent auction will also take place during the day which begins at 12pm.
