Amanda & Dale Carnes

Myrtleford Times - - News -

What is your business?

Jessie James takeaway food, fish and chips.

What brought you to this role?

My husband Dale and l wanted to work for ourselves and wanted to stay in the area long term, so we took the opportunity when we saw the business for sale. We both look forward to meeting all the locals and making friends.

Is it something you have always wanted to do?

Yes. It’s something we have thought about for a few years now. We actually missed out on buying Jessie James about seven years ago so when we saw it up for sale again we thought we would try again.

What have you enjoyed most about it?

We enjoy providing great customer service and quality food, seeing a smile on our customers’ faces knowing they have enjoyed the food. We look forward to meeting more locals and creating friendships within the community.

How long have you been in the area?

We have been in and out of Myrtleford for about 15 years now as Dale has worked in construction, so we have moved around Australia a bit for his work. We arrived back here at the start of this year from Brisbane after originally being from the Latrobe Valley in Gippsland.

What do you enjoy/love about living here?

We both love the surroundings in the area, the bush, mountains, rivers, friendly locals and community support. We love the High Country and all it has to offer.

What is an issue that Myrtleford faces?

Not enough employment opportunities for locals within the community.

If you could get anyone in the world to visit Myrtleford who would it be and what would you show them?

There is not one particular person l could think of, however l would recommend that everyone visit Myrtleford to check out our beautiful country and see what awesome local produce our community has to offer.

What would be your Jessie James order?

Hamburger Deal. Hamburger with the lot, chips and a can of drink for only $12. Or even a freshly battered sav for $1.50.
