Town Santa delivers to Tawonga CFA

Myrtleford Times - - News -

EVERY year in the week running up to Christmas, Bill Sutton dresses up in his Santa suit and sits on the verandah of his Mt Beauty home and interacts with the locals.

He chats to passes by and hands out lollies to children while collecting donations.

Each year, after much thought, Mr Sutton selects a local organisation in need of support, and this year a cheque for $700 was handed to the Tawonga Fire Brigade.

“We always choose a local group so the money stays in our community,” Mr Sutton said.

“Over the years we have collected well over $20,000 which has been distributed to groups who need it most.”

The $700 given to The Tawonga Brigade will be put into a fund to buy a new ultra-light tanker which will cost $135,000.

Mr Sutton said he will continue his ‘Santa on the verandah’ activities as long as he is capable of doing so.

“I recently explained about the project to the woman who supplies Santa suits,” he said.

“She was so impressed that she sent us a brand new top-quality suit worth $2500 and didn’t charge us a cent.”
