Marathon entries building
THE Harrietville Half Marathon is less than four weeks away and ahead of the fourth edition of the event on October 7, entries are steadily building.
One hundred and sixty-six runners took on the fun run over distances of 2km, 5km 10km and 21km in 2017 and it’s hoped 200 runners and walkers will take part this year.
The last event of the Alpine Trifecta series, which incorporates the Mt Beauty Half Marathon and Bright Fun Run, will see the courses remain the same as the previous three years.
The 21.1km course will get underway at the shared trail opposite the Bright Accommodation Park before taking runners along the Tawonga Gap Road onto the Old Harrietville Road at Germantown and then the Great Alpine Road through Freeburgh and Smoko, past the trout farm and then onto the shared trail again before finishing at Tavare Park.
The 10km will start at the Big Shed and follow the same course as the 21km while the 5km will begin at the trout farm and 2km distance from Howards Bridge.
In addition to the Sunday’s running or walking the pre-race pasta party will again take place, this time at Morries Café on the Saturday night.
On race day Phebe Liston from Ovens Valley Physio and Pilates will be at the half marathon start line to take runners through a warm up on what will likely be a brisk spring morning. PICTURESQUE: It’s an early but glorious start to the day taking part in the Harrietville half Marathon .
Race organisers will again donate all proceeds to Harrietville Primary School.
