Benni McKechnie

Myrtleford Times - - News - Yes, we have more equipment arriving this week hopefully and we will look to start brewing beer in the next month or so.

What is your job?

I’m director at the Old Factory

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Being in charge of the business and making decisions as well as having the chance to be able to work in an awesome venue at a great location.

How would you best describe the Old Factory?

An American style barbecue with craft beer. It’s a relaxed environment where everyone can catch up and have a good feed, a few beers and a chat. We will releasing a new name soon which will be the Old Factory Brewing Co.

Will you guys be brewing beer? Has that always been an interest of yours?

Yes, we all definitely love our beer, so we thought why not make it, we have the perfect location with it being home of the hops and last year Myrtleford won second best water in Australia. We thought why not get involved.

What is your favourite beer?

It varies, at the Factory I would go with one of the Ross and Trevor beers from Blizzard but with a few mates at a barbecue probably a Melbourne longneck.

What else is on your Old Factory order?

Beef Brisket is my go too, I eat it lunch and dinner pretty much three days a week. I put a lot of time and effort into it and it comes up well.

What do you love about living in the Alpine area?

The diversity that it offers, I have two young kids and it is a magic place to raise kids because everyone is so friendly, and the scenery is beautiful. There are no traffic lights and we get to go mountain bike riding, skiing, fishing and it’s just a nice slow-paced lifestyle.

If you could bring anyone in the world to Myrtleford who would it be and what would you do with them?

Probably my grandfather who passed away when I was very young, just to show him the success of the Old Factory and what we have done. He was a very good businessman who taught us a few things when we were younger and hopefully he would be proud of us for what we have done.
