Yealering combo tame conditions to win Scramble
It was a big three days of golf last weekend in Narrogin, starting with the Holden Scramble.
A field of 80 teed off for the scramble in cold conditions with the course playing very long after the much-needed rains.
With two chip-ins on the last two holes the Yealering combination of Yogi Melvin, Graeme Manton, Jimmy Hamilton and Tim Cowcher took out the event with 571⁄ 4.
In second were Phil Hudson, Phil Hoskin , Mike Clarke and Mick Anton on 58, followed by Wayne Francis, David Grout, Bill Rybarczyk and Carol Hardie on 591⁄ 2.
On Saturday members played for the Richard and Judy Reid monthly mugs.
In the A-grade, Kim Derbyshire managed not to hit anyone else’s ball on his way to 70 net to win from Tom Hardie on 72 and Shane Thornton on 73.
In the B-grade, Graeme Dawson secured his second mug for the year with a 68 net from Steve Williams and Phil Hudson both on 71.
It was a close finish in the ladies with Simone Lockyer winning in a countback from Sue Short on 77 with Julie Chitty and Leonie Kirby one further back on 78.
The weekend finished off with the mixed foursomes championships sponsored by Narrogin Hay.
The ever-reliable combination of Grace Zabajnik and Wayne Palumbo proved too strong again to win by seven shots on 125 Gross.
Second went to Brett Coxon and Simone Lockyer on 132, followed by Ronnie Coppock and Leonie Kirby on 133.
Because of the Great Southern Championships in Katanning this weekend there will be sweepstake rounds on both Saturday and Sunday.
Friday’s nine-hole scroungers tees off at 2.15pm with everyone welcome.
