Funding to boost Lions Park upgrades
The $774,000 redevelopment of Williams’ Lions Park has been given a financial boost after it was announced that a grant of $360,000 had been allocated to the project through the first round of the Building Better Regions Fund.
Member for O’Connor Rick Wilson announced the funding was successful last week, as well as a $10 million grant for a regional housing initiative servicing sever- al shires in the Great Southern.
The play areas at the new Lions Park have been designed to be highly visible from Albany Highway to encourage some of the 4000 vehicles that pass through Williams each day to stop in town before continuing on the road.
Mr Wilson said the funding would have far-reaching benefits.
“I’m sure local businesses will be pleased with the increased number of people stopping in the town but there’s a safety component in encouraging people to take a break when commuting between Perth and the Great Southern.”
The redevelopment project involves the refurbishment and revitalisation of the park and includes public open space improvements, ablution upgrades and the construction of two new play areas. The play areas have been designed to cater for a wider range of users compared to the existing play area which is limited to very young children.
