A four-wheel-drive burst into flames after its driver pulled off Albany Highway near Williams, with the moment caught on camera by police
A BMW car was engulfed in flames earlier this week half way between Williams and Perth.
Williams police officers were conducting patrols along Albany Highway on Monday when a passer-by flagged them down and informed them a vehicle was on fire.
Sergeant Stephen Stingemore said it was an engine fire and although fire extinguishers were available, they weren’t enough.
“The driver was very upset but he managed to get out of his car without any injuries,” he said.
“The male driver was the only passenger in the car but it was his pride and joy so he was quite devastated.”
The driver pulled off into a dirt track about 50m away from the highway.
As he got out of his vehicle he saw his car slowly go off in flames.
Williams police drove him back to Perth and thanked a number of bystanders who stopped to help and offer assistance.
