Concerns over the safety of stairs at Coles

Narrogin Observer - - Observer News - Laura Grubisa

Narrogin Coles has made alterations to stairs outside its store after complaints about safety.

The Narrogin Observer was contacted about safety issues regarding the stairs at Coles by resident Jenny Forrest.

Mrs Forrest had stated that several people had fallen down the stairs at Coles because of an insufficient handrail and the stairs being too narrow and slippery.

When Coles was contacted for comment it quickly fixed the handrail in question so it now reaches the bottom of the stairs but Mrs Forrest believes Coles has simply taken a “quick fix”approach to the situation and have not fixed the problem entirely because they have not altered the width of the stairs or implemented any non-slip measures. “Coles takes the safety of our customers very seriously,” a spokesman said.

“We have made alterations to the handrail on the stairs outside our Narrogin store to address customer concerns.”

Coles will also be contacting two specific customers who have injured themselves on the stairs and offering assistance where possible.
