High-en­ergy Hawks end Wil­liams year

Nar­ro­gin Hawks are through to the pre­lim­i­nary fi­nal in the Up­per Great South­ern Football League af­ter a com­pre­hen­sive 90-point win over Wil­liams, 19.19 (133) to 5.13 (43), in the first semi­fi­nal,

Wil­liams are now out of the fi­nals and Nar­ro­gin will face ei­ther Katan­ning or Bod­ding­ton in two weeks.

Held on neu­tral ground at Wa­gin Oval, Nar­ro­gin had the up­per hand through­out most of the game, in­clud­ing the sec­ond quar­ter where they kept Wil­liams goal­less.

Wil­liams were ahead on the score­board early in the first quar­ter, but this wasn’t to last as the Hawks ral­lied and kicked three quick goals at the back end of the quar­ter to take an 18point lead at the first break.

The Hawks kept up the in­ten­sity in the sec­ond quar­ter and kicked four goals to Wil­liams’ two points as they raced out to a 43-point lead at half­time.

Nar­ro­gin came out fir­ing af­ter half­time and put an­other five goals on the board while Wil­liams could only find the goal posts once, and sud­denly the Hawks had a very com­fort­able 70point lead.

Nar­ro­gin’s dom­i­nance con­tin­ued into the fi­nal quar­ter as they kicked four ma­jors and kept Wil­liams to an­other one-goal quar­ter.

Ralph Kick­ett was out­stand­ing for the Hawks in front of goal with seven ma­jors and Sean Bradley kicked three.

Kuk­erin/Dum­b­leyung de­feated Wil­liams by 20 points in the re­serves, 8.9 (57) to 5.7 (37), and will face ei­ther Wa­gin or Katan­ning next.

Wa­gin had a seven-point win over Katan­ning in the colts, 8.3 (51) to 6.8 (44), and will face ei­ther Nar­ro­gin or Bod­ding­ton in the pre­lim.

Bod­ding­ton de­feated Brook­ton/ Pin­gelly by seven points in the D-grade, 3.8 (26) to 2.7 (19), and will go up against Nar­ro­gin or Katan­ning next.

The sec­ond round of semi­fi­nals will be held at Clay­ton Road Oval in Nar­ro­gin this week with Katan­ning Wan­der­ers and Bod­ding­ton in the league, Wa­gin and Katan­ning Wan­der­ers in the re­serves, Bod­ding­ton and Nar­ro­gin Hawks in the colts, and Katan­ning Wan­der­ers and Nar­ro­gin Hawks in the D-grade.
