Steps raise awareness

Diabetes Australia is hosting its annual Walk to Work day tomorrow in an initiative which aims to help employers and employees to build regular walking into their daily rou- tine. The event is now in its 19th year and raises funds for Diabetes Australia.

Residents are encouraged to walk to and from work if possible, take a walk at lunchtime and use the stairs instead of escalators or elevators, with the aim of walking at least 1km during the day.

As well as being a healthy activity, regular walking reduces the incidence of type 2 diabetes and promotes better physical, mental and social health.

Businesses are also encouraged to host a healthy breakfast for those taking part in the Walk to Work day.
