Hawks eye double joy in deciders

Narrogin Observer - - Trades & Services - Michael Traill

The Narrogin Hawks will be well represented for the 2018 UGSFL grand final day in Boddington on Sunday.

The Hawks’ C-grade and D-grade sides have qualified for their respective season deciders.

C-grade will take on Boddington — the only side to have beaten them this season in the six-team competition.

That was back in round 7, when Boddington overcame Narrogin in a low-scoring wet-weather match — 4.4 (28) to 2.5 (17).

Since then, Narrogin have gone undefeated, including their convincing 11.10 (76) to 7.6 (48) semifinal win over Boddington.

Coach Jordan Heil said making the grand final was a credit to his side’s effort all year.

“The boys are really excited about the weekend to come,” he said.

“The message (to his players) is take what we’ve shown we can do, we’ve been top of the ladder the whole season, we’ve shown we’re the best team.”

Not only has the Hawks’ C-grade side had an impressive season, they have also been well represented in the club’s senior sides.

Five players have played for the Narrogin’s league side this year — Malachi Bolton, Phil Agnew, Darryl Anderson, Arthur Penny and Ethaneil Bolton.

“They’ve really shown that they’re the top competitors in C-grade,” Heil said.

“It helps them playing at elite level. When they come back to C-grade, they bring elite skills into their game.” D-grade will face Katanning in their grand final after beating Wagin last Sunday, 10.13 (73) to 5.1 (31).
