At its meet­ing of 24 Oc­to­ber, Coun­cil re­ceived two pre­sen­ta­tions from mem­bers of the Com­mu­nity. Coun­cil thanked Rob Shep­herd who pre­sented on the mer­its of re­nam­ing the Clay­ton Road Oval to ‘Apex Arena’, and Ryan Blechyn­den and Dirk du Plessis, Year 11 Nar­ro­gin Se­nior High School stu­dents, who pre­sented on key is­sues that im­pact young peo­ple in their lo­cal com­mu­nity with sug­gested so­lu­tions to help over­come these is­sues. Coun­cil de­ci­sions made at this meet­ing in­clude:

Ap­pli­ca­tion for So­lar Farm

The pro­posal to con­struct a so­lar farm to re­duce the con­sump­tion of elec­tric­ity from the grid by Hill­side Meat Pro­ces­sors was ap­proved by Coun­cil for ad­ver­tis­ing. Sub­mis­sions close 5pm, 22 No­vem­ber 2018.

Gnaro­jin Park Master Plan

The Draft Gnaro­jin Park Mas­ter­plan was adopted for the pur­poses of pub­lic com­ment. A num­ber of key ini­tia­tives from the com­mu­nity are re­flected in the Plan. It pro­poses im­proved walk­ways and en­hanced con­nec­tiv­ity with the CBD, wa­ter­way treat­ments, na­ture based play­grounds, wet­land estab­lish­ment and indige­nous plant­ings, cre­at­ing des­ig­nated space for per­for­mances, events and ex­hi­bi­tions, path light­ing and the de­vel­op­ment of Noon­gar peo­ple’s dream­ing sites and ad­di­tional pub­lic art. The Mas­ter­plan will serve Coun­cil over the next 20 years as an im­por­tant plan­ning frame­work with key projects be­ing staged as fund­ing be­comes avail­able. To­tal es­ti­mated costs are over $6 mil­lion and fi­nanc­ing for much of the plan will be sourced by grant fund­ing. The pub­lic com­ment pe­riod closes 17 De­cem­ber. The Plan can be found on the Shire’s web­site and printed copies are avail­able for read­ing at the Li­brary, the Shire Ad­min­is­tra­tion Of­fice, the Dryan­dra Coun­try Vis­i­tors Cen­tre, ARtS Space and the Old Court­house Mu­seum. Coun­cil con­sid­ered the ten­ders re­ceived for re­pairs to the roof at the Nar­ro­gin Re­gional Re­cre­ation Cen­tre, and ap­proved a ten­der worth $154,000 so that the re­quired works will be un­der­taken by March 2019.
