At its meeting of 24 October, Council received two presentations from members of the Community. Council thanked Rob Shepherd who presented on the merits of renaming the Clayton Road Oval to ‘Apex Arena’, and Ryan Blechynden and Dirk du Plessis, Year 11 Narrogin Senior High School students, who presented on key issues that impact young people in their local community with suggested solutions to help overcome these issues. Council decisions made at this meeting include:
Application for Solar Farm
The proposal to construct a solar farm to reduce the consumption of electricity from the grid by Hillside Meat Processors was approved by Council for advertising. Submissions close 5pm, 22 November 2018.
Gnarojin Park Master Plan
The Draft Gnarojin Park Masterplan was adopted for the purposes of public comment. A number of key initiatives from the community are reflected in the Plan. It proposes improved walkways and enhanced connectivity with the CBD, waterway treatments, nature based playgrounds, wetland establishment and indigenous plantings, creating designated space for performances, events and exhibitions, path lighting and the development of Noongar people’s dreaming sites and additional public art. The Masterplan will serve Council over the next 20 years as an important planning framework with key projects being staged as funding becomes available. Total estimated costs are over $6 million and financing for much of the plan will be sourced by grant funding. The public comment period closes 17 December. The Plan can be found on the Shire’s website and printed copies are available for reading at the Library, the Shire Administration Office, the Dryandra Country Visitors Centre, ARtS Space and the Old Courthouse Museum. Council considered the tenders received for repairs to the roof at the Narrogin Regional Recreation Centre, and approved a tender worth $154,000 so that the required works will be undertaken by March 2019. The full minutes can be found on the Shire’s website with public copies available at the Library and Shire Administration. Council Meetings commence at 7:00 pm, held on the fourth Wednesday of each month. Community members are most welcome to attend.
