W&Co, an interactive design and development studio in New York, had the challenge of designing a site specifically for designers – the AIGA Design Conference. “For us, the conference site is the highlight of the year because it allows us to experiment and try out new tools,” says W&Co principal Vijay Mathews.
Mother New York ( www.mothernewyork.com) created the identity for the conference and W&Co worked to translate that to the web. “We designed the website to be an extension of that identity, relying on those elements and adding a few to help users navigate the site with ease,” Mathews goes on. Not only did the design need to span this website; W&Co also needed to create a system that would work well for releasing updated announcements to the site, one-off pages for specific events, and native apps.
Dual-tone backgrounds, not often seen in web design, are used to break up the content-heavy site. The use of complex, yet not OTT, animations adds another level of visual interest when transitioning between pages and scrolling through content.
