( 1) For sites with extensive navigation, I favour a combination of traditional menu item lists with a menu button for overflow/lower-hierarchy items.
( 2) The stars of the show are the volunteers so I wanted it to feel like their website, featuring their faces and stories.
( 3) Geolocation is used to present nearby opportunities on the Kent map. From here users can jump straight to the details page of a local vacancy.
( 4) The homepage displays the ‘Local Scoreboard’, a monthly roster of high-fliers in the community. This promotes friendly competition and rewards returning volunteers.
( 5) The profile page becomes a volunteers’ dashboard. It offers them a display of earned achievement badges, point status, points required to ‘level up’, and a list of available opportunities.
( 6) The earnable badges remind volunteers of the work they have done and what they have accomplished. They can be shared on social media, broadcasting users’ achievements and spreading the Gather Kent word.
