The web has grown up fast since Tim Bern­ers-Lee came up with the idea in 1989. In the 26 years since the first site be­came avail­able to the world, the web’s specs have been in a state of con­stant de­vel­op­ment, with new tech­niques and tech­nolo­gies turn­ing up at a dizzy­ing rate. Keep­ing up with them can be hard enough; pick­ing out a mere 30 of the most im­por­tant ones is quite a chal­lenge.
