Videos of food pro­duc­ers en­able users to get to know the traders be­fore they visit

I’ve cre­ated a de­sign for a food mar­ket in Romsey. I be­gan by think­ing about what in­for­ma­tion is es­sen­tial for my prospec­tive mar­ket go­ers and what con­tent could I in­clude to help de­light and en­cour­age them to visit?

The lo­ca­tion, open­ing hours and in­for­ma­tion about the pro­duc­ers were es­sen­tial to in­clude. With­out these the web­site wouldn’t be use­ful, so these needed to be clear and easy to read. To de­light users I de­cided to in­clude video pro­files for each food pro­ducer. The aim is that it would help prospec­tive vis­i­tors con­nect with what’s on of­fer and build re­la­tion­ships with the traders be­fore they’ve even set foot in the mar­ket.

Vis­ually, the de­sign puts the spot­light on es­sen­tial in­for­ma­tion and the video pro­files. Peo­ple are able to fil­ter the videos by food type to tai­lor the ex­pe­ri­ence to­wards their per­sonal pref­er­ences. This func­tion­al­ity also en­cour­ages peo­ple to dis­cover the di­verse range on of­fer.


(1) The in­for­ma­tion shown here is es­sen­tial for peo­ple in­ter­ested in the food mar­ket. I have ded­i­cated a good amount of screen space to this con­tent with clear, read­able ty­pog­ra­phy and con­cise in­for­ma­tion – at a glance you can get all the in­for­ma­tion you need. (2) A link to a map has been in­cluded to help peo­ple un­der­stand where the mar­ket is. I want to make it as clear and easy for peo­ple as pos­si­ble. (3) Video pro­files for each food pro­ducer are in­cluded with beau­ti­ful cover pho­tos. Hov­er­ing over a video would an­i­mate it. These are easy to flick through and a se­lected video would in­crease in size to a 16:9 ra­tio. (4) A fil­ter­ing sys­tem has been added here to help peo­ple tai­lor the videos to their in­ter­ests. Se­lect­ing a fil­ter would swiftly change the videos be­low and se­lect­ing ‘all’ would show ev­ery­thing. (5) Links to Face­book and In­sta­gram are in­cluded to help peo­ple en­gage fur­ther with the mar­ket and en­cour­age them to share con­tent with friends.
