t’s royal baby fever! Just weeks after Kate announced her third pregnancy, Australia’s own Princess Mary is set to reveal her own exciting baby news. Well-placed palace sources in Copenhagen tell New Idea that the Danish royal family is poised to make an official announcement that Mary and husband Prince Frederik are set to become parents once again. The couple – who are already parents to Christian, 11, Isabella, 10, and sixyear-old twins Vincent and Josephine – have refused to confirm or deny growing pregnancy reports in recent weeks, leading speculation to rise even more. A surprise visit from Mary’s Aussie relatives to Denmark last week has only spurred on the royal baby whispers, with palace sources revealing that Mary would’ve used the face-to-face visit to announce her special news. ‘Mary and Fred were seen celebrating with her family and friends one night last week at a restaurant,’ says a Copenhagen royal watcher. ‘They were all toasting Mary – but she was suspiciously the only one not drinking alcohol. ‘They were all in very high spirits, and everyone was hugging the princess and congratulating her. It’s no secret in royal circles that a pregnancy announcement is imminent.’

It’s claimed the baby news is the reason that Mary didn’t travel with Fred, 49, to Australia recently for a Hamilton Island sailing meet, choosing to stay at home and rest. The royal mum also raised concerns when she appeared very faint at a royal event recently, in what was claimed to be the early stages of her pregnancy.

‘Now Mary is feeling stronger than ever, and resting has really worked wonders for her,’ says a source. ‘But she still won’t confirm the baby talk.’

It’s believed that the real reason Mary and Fred have chosen to hold off making a formal announcement is the declining health of Fred’s father, Prince Henrik.

The palace recently confirmed that the 83-year-old had been diagnosed with dementia, shining new light on a string of embarrassing and disparaging remarks he made about wife Queen Margrethe, 77.

Sources tell New Idea that Fred felt that it would be ‘poor taste’ to celebrate their fifth child while the country was still reeling from his father’s shock health diagnosis – but Queen Margrethe is now keen to ‘move on to happier times’.

‘Queen Margrethe feels that Henrik’s diagnosis and the whole scandal with his inappropriate comments about her “treating him like a fool” have hit Denmark hard and she’s keen to turn things around,’ says a source.

‘She’s seen the immense joy that William and Kate’s baby announcement has brought to the British monarchy and indeed the world, and she would love to see the same thing to happen in Denmark.

‘Mary and Fred have said that when they feel it’s time to make an announcement, they will talk to Queen Margrethe – so everyone is just waiting.’

The couple – who’ve been married for 13 years – have made no secret of their desire to have a large family. But while many thought they had put their baby plans on hold after the arrival of their twins in 2011, Mary, 45, has told friends she’s ready to have one more.

‘The twins have just started school and Mary feels now’s the time to have another baby,’ says a palace source. ‘While she’s poised to take the throne after Queen Margrethe retires and loves her royal life, Mary

‘While she’s poised to take the throne... Mary feels that motherhood is her best role’

feels that motherhood is her best role yet.

‘All her children are so easy now and she knows they’d love to have another little one in the family. Isabella especially has been saying she’d want a new baby brother or sister.

‘Fred took a little convincing, because he’s loving having a little more freedom now that the children have grown older. But Mary finally got her own way.

‘He just wants Mary happy – she has sacrificed so much to be his bride and works so hard for his family and the Danish people, he couldn’t deny her this. Plus, he loves being a dad.’ NI

Could that be a hint of a bump? Mary’s pregnancy rumours are swirling!

Mary was recently seen suspiciously emptying the contents of her wine glass at a function. After four kids and with the twins at school (below), the royal couple are set to add one more to their brood. A BABY ON T HE WAY? Mary and Fred, who are poised to take the throne, always wanted a large family. The prince went to the Hamilton Island Race Week alone, while some say Mary rested at home.
