DUMPED AND DEPRESSED THE ACTRESS IS LEFT DREADING THE WORST AFTER KEITH IS LEFT DEVASTATED BY THREE DEATHS AND HIS SHOCK IDOL EXIT

Nicole Kidman is battling to stop husband Keith Urban from spiralling into a shock drug relapse after a string of devastating events that have left him desperately on edge.

The Aussie singer is believed to be taking the recent deaths of two close friends and fellow country music stars ‘very hard’, and after not being asked back on the TV show American Idol after four years, he feels gutted.

While Keith put on a brave face at the Toronto Film Festival with wife Nicole Kidman last week, he’s believed to be battling with the bad news behind closed doors – leading to a wave of concern for his wellbeing.

‘Nicole is beside herself with worry,’ says the source.

‘When Keith’s dad died last year, everyone was concerned for Keith – but he stayed strong and really stayed on the straight and narrow. But now that he’s been hit with so much sadness and disappointment in just one week, Nicole is worried that it’s going to push him over the edge.

‘Keith’s been very open about his past problems with serious drug and cocaine addiction, and he wants to stay sober. But with so much negativity surrounding him, it’s understandable that everyone is concerned that he may slip up.’

Keith’s world was turned upside down with the recent deaths of his very good friends Troy Gentry and Don Williams, both on the same day.

Fellow country singer Troy died when a helicopter he was flying in crashed on September 8, leading Keith, 49, to make a heartfelt statement about his close mate. Hours later on the very same day, it was revealed that legendary performer Don – an idol and mentor for Keith – sadly passed away following a short illness, leaving Keith clearly distressed.

‘I cannot put into words the depth of sadness I feel right

now,’ father-of-two Keith emotionally stated on social media about the loss.

It follows on from the death of country legend Glen Campbell last month, a friend so close that it lead music bible Rolling Stone to write that ‘few were affected so acutely by the loss as Keith Urban’.

Then on September 11, Keith revealed his latest heartbreak – he hadn’t been asked to come back on American Idol when it returns to US screens next year. And it’s news that’s sure to leave a big hole in Keith’s heart.

‘It became something more than I expected,’ Keith recently revealed of the show. ‘There’s a genuinely family vibe on the show and I felt part of that immediately... that’s what I’m going to miss the most.’

Now Nicole, 50, is fearing the worst for Keith, who has already done two stints in rehab to treat his serious drug addiction – the first in 1998 and then again in 2006, just four months after he and Nicole were married.

Before his most recent rehab visit, Keith revealed: ‘I deeply regret the hurt this has caused Nicole and the ones who love and support me. One can never let one’s guard down on recovery, and I’m afraid that I have.’

Adds a source: ‘Nicole and Keith both know that his addiction issues can rear their ugly head at any time and so she’s always on the lookout for warning signs.

‘Having four pieces of devastating news within the one month is a definite concern, so she’s monitoring Keith very closely. She’s determined to keep him sober and happy.’

The Hollywood couple put on a brave face in public at last week’s Toronto Film Festival. SHAKY GROUND Keith was gutted not to be invited back to American Idol, here with fellow judges Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr.
