It’s official! Prince Harry and Meghan are finally engaged

New Idea - - News -

It’s the royal engagement news the world has been waiting for – and now it seems two new announcements are on the way for Prince Harry and his bride-to-be, Meghan.

New Idea can exclusively reveal that wedding invitations have been sent out to special guests for a ‘winter wedding’ in the UK, with the Queen giving her blessing for the hugely anticipated royal nuptials.

‘Invitations have been sent to senior royals and key dignitaries to “save the date,”’ says a top palace courtier. ‘Given that there’s a very short turnaround on the announcement and wedding, the Queen wants to make sure that none of the senior royals and politicians organise holidays or special events around that time.

‘The Queen wants to wait until after her and Philip’s anniversary celebrations are over before making an announcement on the wedding date, but plans for a winter ceremony are well under way.’

But now, well-placed palace sources tell New Idea that more bombshell announcements are on their way, amid rumours that the couple are expecting their first child and could be married in as little as eight weeks.

‘We’ve heard on very good authority that Meghan is already pregnant,’ a top palace courtier has revealed. ‘Prince Harry has told the Queen that they would like to marry “as soon as possible”, which is only making the pregnancy speculation even more rife.

‘At one point, one of the Queen’s advisers indicated that they could make time for a Westminster Abbey ceremony in eight weeks, and Harry was very keen – which would place the wedding in January.

‘He and Meghan are in a very big rush to get down the aisle, and everyone’s guessing it’s because she doesn’t want to be too far along for the big day.’

Adding to the baby talk is reports that Meghan has told stylists that she’d like a flowing, forgiving style of bridal gown – leading to more speculation that she’ll have a bump on the big day.

Meghan herself recently admitted that she’d love a more unique wedding dress, and mentioned bridal designers who specialise in more whimsical and floaty designs.

‘Delphine Manivet and Christos Costarellos are faves of mine for their uniqueness and beauty,’ Meghan told

Glamour. ‘And I will always be a fan of Elie Saab.’

While baby rumours run rife, preparations for the official wedding ceremony appear to be moving along very steadily. Sources tell New Idea that 36-year-old Meghan has already asked future sister-inlaw Kate – who’ll be heavily pregnant at the nuptials – to be maid of honour, while Princess Charlotte will be bridesmaid and Prince George one of the pageboys.

‘Meghan loved the role Kate took in Pippa Middleton’s recent wedding and would love her to do the same at her big day – looking after her and, of course, all the children,’ says a source close to the actress.

‘After all, Kate has been there before and knows exactly what will happen – all the official responsibilities and expectations.

‘The only concern is that Kate will be seven months pregnant in January – but she’s told Meghan not to worry, that she’ll be absolutely fine and is really looking forward to helping her on her big day.

‘Meghan is very nervous about messing up around the Queen and making a mistake, so Kate will be instrumental in helping her through it all and keeping her calm.’

Trusted palace correspondent Phil Dampier has also given insight into the wedding plans, revealing that the couple will take on the titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex after the wedding. He also revealed that more than 700 guests will attend the ceremony, which will be held at Westminster Abbey.

But it’s emerged that Harry has also taken on a key role with all the wedding plans and is planning a ‘huge concert’ at the reception to celebrate their love.

‘They are head over heels in love and they can’t wait to be husband and wife,’ a close friend tells Phil Dampier.

‘Harry says Meghan is “The One”, he wants to share the rest of his life with her and they are a match made in heaven.’
