Rumour has it that, on the back of the success of Elton John’s album

Yellow Brick Road, he headed straight to his local Ferrari dealership and dropped a few bob on a brand-new 365 GTB/4 Daytona. That very car is now up for sale at Silverstone Auctions.

Ferrari made close to 1300 Daytonas over the course of six years, with only 158 of them built in right-hand drive, including Sir Elton’s, finished in red on black.

He owned the car from 1973 (the year his aforementioned seventh studio album boogied its way into our ears and hearts) until 1975. The car has subsequently been looked after by passionate Ferrari owners, including one who held onto the Daytona for 16 years.

The Daytona has just over 80,000 miles (128,750km) on the clock, and is expected to fetch upwards of £550K ($982K) when it goes under the hammer at the end of the month.
