With 350 or­ders at its 1990 Birm­ing­ham mo­tor show launch, TVR knew that it had a hit on its hands with the Grif­fith. Al­though not par­tic­u­larly revo­lu­tion­ary — it com­bined a new tubu­lar steel chas­sis with a glass-fi­bre body and a Rover V8 en­gine — it did ev­ery­thing that a TVR was sup­posed to do. The TVR Chi­maera was de­signed to be a slightly more lux­u­ri­ous propo­si­tion, and, while it was slightly big­ger and softer, the un­der­pin­nings were al­most ex­actly the same.
