The Pebble Beach Concours d’elegance Best in Show–winning 1929 Mercedes-benz S Barker Tourer ‘Boat Tail’ is now confirmed for the UK’S Concours of Elegance 2018.

The car will return to the UK this year for the first time since 1958, taking its place in the glorious grounds of Hampton Court Palace from August 31 to September 2, giving visitors a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to view this award-winning Mercedes, widely regarded as the world’s finest car.

Based on the 1927 Mercedes S-type, the unique Boat Tail was one of the most powerful road-going cars in the world in period, developed as the perfect roadgoing, race-capable car. A recent restoration has returned the car to its original state, complete with signature Blue Peacock paint and distinctive boat tail.

Originally owned by racing enthusiast and British Racing Drivers’ Club co-founder Earl Howe, this car was fitted with a revolutionary body that incorporated a lightweight and aerodynamic shell with unique aircraft-inspired aluminium side pods crafted by English coachbuilder Barker.
