NORMALLY they are dressed in their finest jeans, boots and belts at campdrafts – but for this event, they chose to wear... nothing.

After winning the chance to organise the annual Women in Campdrafting weekend, ladies from the Lucindale Campdraft Club in Victoria were brainstorming fundraising ideas.

“The Western District Campdraft club had raised $14,000 the previous year,” sub-committee member Raquel Tyler said.

“So we thought ‘there is the bar, what can we do to raise that?’”

Fellow committee member, and talented photographer and bush poet, Nicole Turner soon spoke up suggesting a nude calendar might spark some interest.

Although apprehensive about posing in the buff, Raquel said Nicole made all the ladies feel comfortable during the shoot.

“In the end it actually felt quite empowering,”empowering ” sheh said.

The tasteful calendar, which features strategically placed hats, saddles and horses to cover the ladies’ private parts, is already a hit with fellow campdrafters.

“It was really well accepted, so we have 500 copies to sell and all proceeds will go to the McGrath Foundation,” Raquel said.

“We think this will really add to our total fundraising tally.”

Women in Campdrafting was developed in 2008 by a couple of rural Victorian women, after the cancellation of campdrafts across the country due to equine influenza.

“They realised how important campdraft was to them as a social outlet and for building strong support networks,” she said.

“The first Women in Campdrafting weekend was an unmounted clinic and it was more about getting the ladies together.”

This year the Lucindale ladies have organised some of the country’s top horse people to offer clinics to 60 participants.

“Campdrafting is a male-dominated sport and this is just giving women an opportunity to learn new skills.”

A breast care nurse will be also be a guest speaker, educating participants about breast checks. To support the cause, or to buy a calendar, call Melanie Austen 0418 895 661 or search Women In Campdrafting on Facebook.
