Cat­tle flood­ing in for sale as heat and dry per­sists

MORE ex­treme heat across the North Bur­nett saw 1210 head yarded at Monto’s Fat and Store sale held on Wed­nes­day, Fe­bru­ary 15.

Cat­tle pro­duc­ers have de­cided to re­duce num­bers in the lead up to win­ter with lit­tle or no rain over much of the sup­ply area.

The mar­ket slid ap­prox­i­mately 10–15c/kg but the over­sup­ply of cat­tle has forced the price drop.

Ge­off and Del­lis McLaugh­lan sold Drought­mas­ter bul­locks 543kgs for 290c/kg or $1575. Rob and Tr­ish By­grave’s Sim­brah bul­locks re­alised $1570 or 287c/kg. Pat Wil­liams penned Santa trade steers to realise 309c/kg or $1575.

Ron and Mar­garet Hamp­son’s Santa bul­locks 660kgs sold to 283c/kg or $1870. War­ren McLach­lan sold Brah­man bul­locks 566kgs for 291c/kg or $1648 and Brah­man heifers 5156kgs for $1405 or 272c/kg. EN and PA Hind­marsh penned Char­bray heifers which sold from 291c/kg to 303c/kg top­ping at $1520.

Becky Wil­son, Eureka Creek Brah­mans sold cows 522kgs for 245c/kg or $1280. Ride­out Graz­ing penned Red Brah­man cows 530kgs which re­turned $1273.

Les and Val Hotz sold Brah­man cows 566kgs for 236c/kg or $1337. Birch Pas­toral con­signed Drought­mas­ter cows 456kgs to make 235c/kg or $1075. Euroka Graz­ing sold Char­bray store cows for 219c/kg or $950.

Stu­art Bar­rett, Than­g­ool sold qual­ity Drought­mas­ter steers 408kgs for 335c/kg or $1366. LD and SJ McLaugh­lan’s Brah­man steers 406kgs re­turned $1307 or 319c/kg. Ivan Dunk­ley’s Pinz­gauer cross steers 435kgs re­turned $1445 or 332c/kg. Birch Pas­toral sold a run of Droughtie No 6 steers for 324c to 358c/kg to av­er­age 345c/kg or $1075. Lachy McInnes sold Droughtie cross No 6 steers 260kgs for 378c/kg or $985. Larsen Farms 204kg Char­bray steers sold for 372c/kg or $757. Lighter weaner steers gen­er­ally sold from 350c to 372c/kg.

P and J Gar­diner yarded 358kg Char­bray heifers to re­turn $1098 or 306c/kg.

EN and PA Hind­marsh’s 360kg Char­bray heifers sold for 302c/kg or $1090. Brav­ish Pty Ltd sold Braford heifers 334kgs for 294c/kg or $983. Ja­son Barnard’s Droughtie cross heifers sold to 306c/kg or $890.

Char­lie Anger penned Santa weaner heifers 230kgs to realise 320c/kg or $737.

L and V Hotz’s Braford Brah­man cross weaner heifers sold to 314c/kg or $618. Larsen Farms 185kg Char­bray heifers sold to 322c/kg or $597.

Monto’s next fat and store sale will be held on Wed­nes­day, March 1.
