RACING Minister Grace Grace has congratulated the jockeys, trainers and owners honoured at the Australian Racehorse of the Year Awards, hosted by Racing Queensland in Brisbane this week.
Ms Grace said the racing industry’s night of nights highlighted some spectacular success stories, most notably Winx, who was crowned Australian Racehorse of the Year for the second year running.
“Winx has a strong association with Queensland, going through the sales ring at the Magic Millions on the Gold Coast as a yearling and kicking off her 21-straight winning streak on the Sunshine Coast in 2015,” Ms Grace said.
“Her winning connections include Queenslander Peter Tighe and it was great to see him in Brisbane along with the other owners at the awards.
“I want to congratulate trainer Chris Waller and jockey Hugh Bowman for their roles in the Winx success story and pay tribute to all jockeys, trainers and owners associated with the other award winners.
“It was great to have the elite of the Australian racing industry in Queensland to celebrate the exceptional achievements of our best racehorses.”
