Adelaide hit by McGovern injury

NewsMail - - AFL SPORT -

ADELAIDE has been dealt a major blow on the eve of its preliminary final against Geelong, with key forward Mitch McGovern suffering a hamstring injury.

Although the severity of McGovern’s injury remains unclear, it has thrown the talented 22-year-old’s chances of playing in Friday night’s crucial clash into huge doubt.

The Crows confirmed the growing whispers about McGovern’s injury issue yesterday, saying he would “undergo further medical investigation” after reporting hamstring soreness to the club.

McGovern has enjoyed a bright season in the Crows forward line, kicking 20 goals from 13 games and recently earning a lucrative three-year contract extension with the club.

One of Adelaide’s form players in the second half of the season, McGovern kicked dominant bags of four goals against Collingwood and Sydney in the lead-up to the finals series.

He kicked one goal in its qualifying final win against GWS.

Adelaide takes on Geelong at the Adelaide Oval on Friday night, hoping to secure its first grand final appearance since its last premiership success in 1998.
