Bonser’s knock bolsters PHCC

NewsMail - - SPORT - HIT AND RUN: David Bonser hit an unbeaten 87 against Norths on Saturday.

CRICKET: Past Highs Combined Country will continue batting next week after an impressive first day for the merged club.

The side batted all day on Saturday to reach 4/217 at stumps in its two-day match against defending premiers Norths in Division 1.

PHCC opener David Bonser made 87 when he combined with Kyle Stallon and Dylan Streets in vital partnerships throughout the day.

The side will now resume batting next week, to set up a total for Norths to chase later in the match.

“We’ll try to launch a platform,” PHCC player Dale Steele said.

“We’ll set a reasonable target, not one that’s ridiculous,” Steele said.

“We’ve got six wickets in the bank so let’s see how we go.”

Steele said the day was all about Bonser’s batting.

“He really stood up and worked hard,” he said.

“It’s a shame though he can’t play next week as

he is away.”

Norths kept PHCC to under three runs per over which impressed captain Todd Sommerfeld.

“We had a few players out so we got out there and did what we needed to do,” Sommerfeld said.

“We’ll wait and see what happens next week. The focus for us is on taking early wickets.”

PHCC will resume batting next week at 12.30pm at Kendalls Flat.
