A NEW communications room and training space has been made possible for the Gregory River Rural Fire Brigade thanks to a Stronger Communities Program grant from the Federal Government.

Federal Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt congratulated the Gregory River Rural Fire Brigade which was awarded $6000 to upgrade its facilities.

“The upgrade means members can undertake skills training and they now have a communications hub for any fire-fighting activity in the area,” Mr Pitt said.

“The Stronger Communities Program has been a boost for community groups and organisations like the Gregory River Rural Fire Brigade that would otherwise struggle to fund these types of improvements.”

Mr Pitt visited the upgraded facility this week with Gregory River Rural Fire Brigade first officer Rudy Stakenburg.

The Stronger Communities Program offered eligible community groups grants of between $5000 and $20,000 for small capital projects.
