Tough cop’s recovery ‘a miracle’
NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller has called Detective Sergeant John Breda’s recovery a “miracle”. The veteran officer (pictured), who was stabbed by child abuser Nick Newman at a Maroubra pub on Friday, opened his eyes yesterday and began communicating with his family. “John is talking and preparing for his first rehab session this afternoon,” Commissioner Fuller said. “He’s a lucky man, but in saying that, he was incredibly fit and incredibly strong mentally. The doctors put that down to one of the key reasons he survived.” Newman was shot dead by police.
