PERFECT PICNIC SPOTS
When the weather is fine, pack a picnic basket and head to one of these fabulous locations for the afternoon
Noosa Botanic Gardens
This hidden gem is a sprawling expanse on the shores of Lake Macdonald. There are literally dozens of perfect spots to choose for your picnic – beside the water, among the amazing flora or at the Grecian-style amphitheatre. If you’re lucky you may see some Friends of the Botanic Gardens who can take you on a journey and explain some of the specific natural attractions.
Emu Mountain is easy to climb and is the perfect spot for a picnic. Much quieter than the nearby Mount Coolum, Emu Mountain is just off the beach and gives unfit walkers the chance to enjoy stunning views over the ocean, stretching from Coolum Beach in the south up to Peregian to the north. There are also spectacular hinterland views to the west – and you’ll have the prime spot to enjoy stunning sunsets. You won’t find large manicured grassy areas so take a rug and cushion to sit on.
James McKane Memorial Lookout
This one may not be a secret to the hinterland crowd but if you live on the coast, chances are you’ve never ventured up to Cooran’s James McKane Memorial Lookout. This prime picnic spot has lush grass to stretch out on once you’ve finished your picnic.
For those not keen to climb Mount Coolum, stick to the beach and head along the boardwalk to First Bay. It’s a secluded spot where you’ll find lovely grassy patches to set up your picnic. Plus, you’ll enjoy gorgeous views of the ocean.
If you can find a park somewhere along Hastings Street or in the woods, wander towards the end of the spit through the natural bush and you’ll find a lovely patch of sand overlooking the ocean to call your own. The view is to Noosa North Shore and beyond. It’s the perfect spot for a picnic and, if you have dogs with you, the river side has an off-leash dog area where they can run free.
