Club hold-up drags on

North Coast Times - - NEWS -

CONSTRUCTION of the new Yanchep Surf Life Saving Club remains stalled after the building contract was terminated in September.

The City of Wanneroo ended its $4.53 million contract with DGX Construction (formerly Diploma Construction) because of a substantial departure from the approved construction program without reasonable cause.

A car park at the site was finished in December but work on the club building and additional parking will not start until the City accepts a replacement tender.

The facility was originally due for completion last November.

Assets director Harminder Singh said the contract termination had caused significant delay and required verification of the remaining scope of work.

“It is anticipated that a new contractor will be appointed by late February or early March 2017, with construction work recommencing immediately thereafter,” he said. “The program for completion of the outstanding work will be in the order of six months.”
