SHIRE of Gingin councillors unanimously approved Experience Holiday Parks for the redevelopment of the Lancelin Caravan Park at a meeting on June 20.

Shire president David Roe said the business operators, Reginald and Donna Cocking and Christopher and Ornella Sialtsis, aimed to start the first stage of redevelopment in early 2018.

“This group were one of two applicants shortlisted by the Shire’s Lancelin Caravan Park evaluation and selection committee,” he said.

“Although the other applicant withdrew from the process, the submission from Experience Holiday Parks was of a very high standard and subsequently they were recommended as the preferred applicant.”

Cr Roe said the group were experienced operators who also managed the Central Caravan Park at Ascot as well as the Mandurah Caravan and Tourist Park.

He said they would invest $5 million over five years to develop the park to a high coastal tourist destination standard with self-contained cabins, new ablution and camper kitchen facilities and road infrastructure.

They also plan to include an enclosed, heated swimming pool with public access, plus an adventure playground.

“Council has also recommended the successful proponents taking over interim management of the existing park while negotiations continue with regard to a prospective lease,” Cr Roe said.

“A business plan is currently being prepared and the Shire will seek permission from the Minister for Lands to amend its vesting order at the site to enable a 21-year lease with a 21-year option to renew.”
