Daugh­ters treat cou­ple to an­niver­sary sur­prise

DE­SPITE spend­ing more than 65 years to­gether, Merriwa cou­ple Ruth and Pa­trick La­mond still have some sur­prises in their re­la­tion­ship.

Un­der the guise of taking them out for lunch, the cou­ple’s daugh­ters in­stead threw them a sur­prise party to mark their 65th wed­ding an­niver­sary this month.

Mrs La­mond (86) said nearly 30 fam­ily mem­bers, many of whom she had not seen in a long time, at­tended.

“It was ab­so­lutely mar­vel­lous, it was won­der­ful,” she said.

She said her hus­band, who turned 89 this month, had been un­well, so they made the most of the oc­ca­sion.

“Sixty-five years is a long time,” she said.

“We make the most of what time we have.

“Ev­ery­thing goes along quite well, we are quite happy.”
